Nuria González joins Eva Alcón’s team, becoming the first rector from ULE to serve on CRUE’s Governing Board, “giving our institution a more active role within the Spanish university community.”
The rector reaffirms her commitment to advancing sustainability across all activities within Spain’s public universities.

Nuria González, Rector of the University of León (ULE), has been appointed President of the Sustainability Commission of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), following the organisation’s final General Assembly of the year, held in the University of Murcia’s Faculty of Law.

CRUE is the leading association of Spanish universities, acting as a collaborative body and a unified voice for higher education institutions across the country. It represents their interests and supports initiatives to strengthen university education, research, and social responsibility. Within this framework, CRUE-Sustainability is one of its key sectoral committees, dedicated to promoting sustainable development practices and values in Spain’s public and private universities.

Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in her and for the guidance of the outgoing president, Rector González highlighted that sustainability in business is one of her areas of research—a field of knowledge she is eager to contribute to her new role.

I am confident that this background will help me drive initiatives that integrate sustainability into all aspects of our universities’ activities,” said González. She underscored the pivotal role of universities as hubs of innovation, serving as models for a sustainable framework that prioritizes not only environmental stewardship but also social justice and equity.

At CRUE-Sustainability, we must work tirelessly to reflect these values on every campus through collaboration, sharing best practices, and fostering innovative projects. I am convinced that, by working together, we can transform our universities into true leaders in sustainability, paving the way for a better future for all,” she added.

With this appointment, Nuria González also becomes a member of CRUE’s Governing Board, the body that represents and oversees the organisation’s interests, aligning with the General Assembly’s policies and guidelines. González is the first rector from ULE to join CRUE’s Governing Board, a milestone that she believes will grant the university a more active role within Spain’s higher education community.
