A Playful RCP Testbed for Young Scientists:
EURECA-PRO at TUC's 8th Science and Technology Day "Thelma Mavridou"

Saturday, 2nd of November 2024 | Technical University of Crete, Chania, Grece

On Saturday 2nd of November 2024, from 2pm to 8pm, EURECA-PRO welcomed more than 3000 children and their families as part of TUC’s 8th Science and Technology Day “Thelma Mavridou”. TUC’s Science and Technology Day is the biggest “Learn and Play” event for primary school children in Chania and one of the most important community-outreach educational events in Crete. Since its first edition in 2014, Science and Technology Day “Thelma Mavridou” has been established as an influential event that lays the foundations for the future generations of scientists, engineers and innovative thinkers.

TUC’s EURECA-PRO team of Student Ambassadors and Staff presented to the young visitors an interactive mix-and-match card game, delivered in Greek and English, that aimed at developing a deeper understanding of what Responsible Consumption and Production (RCP) means and at playfully guiding the participants to make innovative connections between everyday life and scientific and technological research and production.

The visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about the European Culture and Geography, about Recycling and about EURECA-PRO’s legacy through audiovisual displays, quizzes, memory and pervasive games in collaboration with TUC’s Rollick game platform developed as part of MUSIC Lab’s STEM Explorer action. The visitors who successfully completed the games won EURECA-PRO prizes.

The visitors’ journey through EURECA-PRO’s kiosk concluded with a stop at the “Creative Corner” where they had the chance to stencil EURECA-PRO’s logo on their hands, arms, clothes and sheets of recycled paper, as well as to design and draw their own versions of the logo. Special thanks to the TUC TIE Lab for creating the EURECA-PRO stencils made from responsibly sourced recycled cardboard.
