EURECA-PRO Landmark unveiled at Technical University of Crete campus

Wednesday, March 12, 2025 @ the Technical University of Crete | Campus

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, under the bright Mediterranean spring sun, the red tie of the EURECA-PRO Landmark was cut at the Technical University of Crete (TUC) Campus. The ceremony was led by TUC rector, Prof. Michail Zervakis, in the presence of members of TUC’s EURECA-PRO team, representatives of Montanuniversität Leoben’s EURECA-PRO team, and members of the TUC design team.

The EURECA-PRO Landmark was created by a team of TUC students and scientific collaborators from the Laboratory of Transformable Intelligent Environments – TUC TIE Lab at the School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete. The contributors — Giorgos Artsidakis, Georgia Velli, Marios Ioannidis, Myrto Pagomenaki, Anna-Pagona Papidi, and Ioanna Feidopiasti — worked under the supervision of Marianthi Liapi.

This installation marks the successful completion of the first phase of the European University EURECA-PRO and serves as a tribute to the alliance partners and the European Union’s vision for the universities of the future, as supported by the European Universities Initiative.

Design explorations

The starting point of the team’s design explorations was the classic type of poles with signs, which indicate the distances between different cities and destinations, as well as anamorphic art. Each of the 9 letters of the name “EURECA-PRO” is attributed to one of the 9 partner universities of EURECA-PRO and each letter is visually decomposed into three sections, which together spread out in space, playing with perspective.

The Laboratory of Transformable Intelligent Environments – TUC TIE Lab and the EURECA-PRO TUC team of the Technical University of Crete would like to thank the Directorate of Technical Services at TUC for its valuable contribution to the implementation of the project.
