November 2024

The Silesian University of Technology has been honoured with two prestigious Elsevier Research Impact Leaders 2024 Awards.

The university received recognition in the category of Social Sciences and in a special category, the *European University Alliances Members’ Research Impact Leaders Award 2024*, for its achievements within the European Commission’s “European Universities” initiative.

The Elsevier Research Impact Leaders Awards, established in 2016, celebrate research institutions that achieve outstanding results in research quality, international collaboration, and the implementation of strategic excellence initiatives at both the national and international levels. These efforts contribute to enhancing the visibility of Polish science on the global stage.

In 2024, the Silesian University of Technology was nominated in three categories and ultimately secured two awards. In the Social Sciences category, where it competed with Gdańsk University of Technology and Kozminski University, the university was recognised for its high proportion of publications developed through international collaboration, published in top-tier journals, and its significant citation impact. Particular acclaim was given to publications related to Industry 4.0, highlighting the global significance of the university’s research in this area.

The award in the European University Alliances Members’ Research Impact Leaders Award 2024 category was granted to the Silesian University of Technology for its achievements as part of the EURECA-PRO European University. The recognition focused on collaborative publications addressing the United Nations’ 12th Sustainable Development Goal: Responsible Consumption and Production. These contributions represent a significant step towards realising the goals of the European Green Deal.

Since 2016, the SUT has received five Elsevier awards. Previous victories include recognition in 2016 in the category of Engineering and Technology, in 2018 in the field of Social Sciences, and in 2023 in the special European University Alliances Members’ Research Impact Leaders Award category.

The winners of the Elsevier Research Impact Leaders 2024 Awards were announced on 20 November 2024 during a plenary session of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP), held at the Silesian University of Technology.
